I’m not one for the New Year’s resolution. Last year I considered all mine “to be accomplished eventually.”  That makes it much easier to ignore them and skip the guilt when they aren’t fulfilled. So this year, I’m trying to do (at least) one better. I’m passionate about many things, and the top of that list is usually writing. Unfortunately, I don’t get enough of it without trying so it’s time to put forth some effort. Who the heck am I and what will I write about?? Here’s a few things:

This is not me, but you might want to check it out if you’re a hockey fan. This is also why I use my maiden name: Kristin Markway Shaw. I didn’t marry into the most exciting last name.

I’ve tried my hand at blogging before, but I’ve been plagued by bad circumstances or lack of motivation. More than anything, I forced myself into niches, and I’m all about the breath of any number of wacky subjects. This was the cooking blog, this was the personal rants blog and last one was agreen-living blog, which I really enjoyed but the network went out of business.

I received journalism degrees from the University of Missouri and Northwestern University, and I’m currently an adjunct instructor teaching multimedia journalism at the University of Iowa. I also work for a media consulting company so I’m pretty passionate about journalism and all the frustrating and exciting things that are happening in that field.

I’m also a bit of a foodie, but only in the Rachael Ray-this-should-be-so-easy kind of way.

I love to read, but mostly stick to popular fiction. I’ve been looking for a couple of really good book blogs lately without success, so I’m open to any and all recommendations.

And most of all, I’m young! I’m a Millennial (also known as Gen Y, Net Gen, etc…). I think a lot of my interactions with the world, my bosses my co-workers, Millennial students, etc… are informed by my age and given experiences, thus the title for the blog. Enjoy!
